A 56-year-old bicyclist is dead after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn, police said.
The victim, Jose Ramos, also of Brooklyn, died from “severe head and body trauma,” the NYPD said Saturday.
The deadly collision occurred Friday at 10 p.m. at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Essex Street in East New York, police said. Cops responding to a 911 found Ramos lying on the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive, authorities said. EMS transported him to Interfaith Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a white or light-colored sedan was traveling westbound on Atlantic Avenue, approaching the intersection of Essex Street, when the bicyclist attempted to cross in the marked crosswalk from the south side to the north side, police said.

The vehicle struck Ramos, knocking him to the roadway, before speeding off westbound on Atlantic Avenue, cops said.
There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, an NYPD spokesman said.
