Edgar Berlanga vs Steve Rolls Boxing Match Preview

Berlanga’s time is coming to make title contention noise  in the super middleweight division and he knows it. Ranked No.15 in the class, he’s still a ways away from being in the same conversation as current champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders, or even No.10 Gabriel Rosado. Still, his power is undeniable, and he’s shown in his last two outings that he can go the distance too.

Berlaga, 24, is 13 years younger than Rolls, 37, who he will face on Saturday. Still waiting for a title opportunity himself, the closest Rolls has gotten was facing Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin  at MSG in 2019. Rolls lost the match, getting knocked out in the fourth round, and now looks to rebuild toward contention. An upset over Berlanga could make a lot of noise. This is the month for upsets, and Berlanga at -1200 to Rolls’ +700 is ripe for the taking.

Serving as the co-main event for the night is 19-year old sensation Zayas (12-0-0, 9 KO), fighting out of Puerto Rico. He’s ended four of his last five fights early. Zayas looks to do the same to Quincy “Chico” LaVallais (12-2-1, 7 KO). This is the first bout for Zayas that has been scheduled for at least eight rounds in his young career. While Zayas is riding a winning streak, LaVallais is looking to rebound from his unanimous decision loss to Nolberto Casco last October in six rounds. It was LaVallais’ second loss in his last four contests, and enters as a massive underdog at +950. The desert is expecting an early end to the bout, favoring Zayas -2000, with -330 odds that it doesn’t go eight rounds.
