Manchester United (4th, 14 points) travels to face Leicester City in Matchday 8 of Premier League play as the Red Devils hope to keep pace with the top teams in the league table. Cristiano Ronaldo gets the start at center forward, looking to add to his tally of three goals in four Premier League matches.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen his team fail to win in its last two Premier League outings, both at home: 1-0 loss to Aston Villa and 1-1 draw against Everton. And entering the match against a tough Leicester City side, Manchester United will be without its big center back signing this offseason, Raphael Varane, who picked up a groin injury while on international duty with France.
But Harry Maguire will be back for Manchester United and Marcus Rashford is on the bench for the first time this season. Fred and Edinson Cavani are out after playing in Thursday’s Brazil vs. Uruguay World Cup qualifier:
Manchester United starting lineup (4-2-3-1, left to right): 1-David De Gea — 23-Luke Shaw, 5-Harry Maguire, 2-Victor Lindelof, 29-Aaron Wan-Bissaka — 31-Nemanja Matic, 6-Paul Pogba — 25-Jadon Sancho, 18-Bruno Fernandes, 11-Mason Greenwood — 7-Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United subs (9): 26-Dean Henderson-GK, 27-Alex Telles, 3-Eric Bailly, 20-Diogo Dalot, 34-Donny van de Beek, 39-Scott McTominay, 14-Jesse Lingard, 8-Juan Mata, 10-Marcus Rashford
Solskjaer will hope not to lose anyone else to injury with a big Champions League home match against Atalanta coming up on Wednesday. Manchester United already has one less competition to worry about this season after West Ham bounced it from the Carabao Cup in a shock 1-0 win at Old Trafford. The club’s complete season schedule follows below.
