Red Sox and Astros reveal rosters for ALCS showdown originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros begin the American League Championship Series with Game 1 at Minute Maid Park on Friday night.
It’s the third postseason series between these teams in the last five years.
The Astros eliminated the Red Sox in four games during the 2017 ALCS. The Red Sox got their revenge the following year by beating the Astros in a five-game ALCS en route to winning the 2018 World Series.
Tomase: Sale starting Game 1 could be make-or-break decision
Both teams officially announced their rosters for the 2021 ALCS on Friday morning.
Two of the most notable observations are Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes and Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. (injury) not making the cut. McCullers is perhaps Houston’s most important player, so not having him is a pretty big blow.
