Sunday Ratings: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Victory Over the New England Patriots Ignites NBC

NBC was the standout on Sunday, with Tampa Bay at New England on “Sunday Night Football” averaging a very approximate 22.80 million viewers and a 6.1 rating/37 share in adults 18-49 for the primetime portion (from 8:30-11 p.m. ET). As always, results for any live sporting event are approximate. And a performance of this magnitude only magnifies the still value of the linear broadcast model.

On CBS, a half-hour primetime football overrun (Viewers: 19.26 million; A18-49: 4.4/28 at 7 p.m.) boosted the network for the evening. But it also means all program ratings are approximate. Lead-out “60 Minutes” scored an estimated 9.91 million viewers and a 1.6/10 in the demo from 7:30-8:30 p.m., leading into an airing of 2009 theatrical “Star Trek” at a mere (and also approximate) 2.31 million viewers and a 0.4/ 2 in the demo. Next Sunday on CBS will be the season premieres of dramas “The Equalizer”, “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “SEAL Team.”

Over at ABC, the season premiere of veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” scored 4.57 million viewers (#3) and a 0.4/ 3 in adults 18-49 (#3t) at 7 p.m., leading into “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune”, “Supermarket Sweep” and “The Rookie” as follows:

9:00 p.m. “Supermarket Sweep”
Viewers: 2.80 million (#2), A18-49: 0.4/ 2 (#2t)

Viewers: 2.98 million (#2), A18-49: 0.3/ 2 (#2t)

Elsewhere, Fox’s two-hour Sunday animated block plunged to what could be an historical low for original content for the network on the evening. Take a look:

Viewers: 1.22 million (#4), A18-49: 0.4/ 3 (#2t)

The CW, meanwhile, got minimal interest in night two of the latest “iHeartRadio Music Festival.” See network averages above. Nxt Sunday the network launches dramas “The Legends of the Hidden Temple” and “Killer Camp” from 8-10 p.m.
