Sometimes “you can’t go home again.” The revival of “CSI: Vegas” on CBS was left at the starting gate with a modest 3.97 million viewers (#2) and a 0.4 rating/3 share in adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. That trailed competing “Chicago PD” on NBC, which scored 5.61 million viewers and a 0.7/ 6 in the demo. Third in the time period was ABC cellar-dweller “A Million Little Things” (Viewers: #3, 1.71 million; A18-49: #3, 0.2/ 2). Let’s face it…there was really no reason to bring back “CSI.”

In season premiere news was CBS reality competition “Tough As Nails”, which did not live up to its title with 3.10 million viewers (#2) and a 0.5/ 3 (#2) in adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. That was a steep decline from lead-in “Survivor”, which topped the night in the demo (0.9/ 6), with 5,56 million viewers overall at 8 p.m.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was the first two-thirds of the popular “Chicago” franchise: “Chicago Med” (Viewers: #1, 6.74 million; #2, 0.8/ 6 at 8 p.m.) and “Chicago Fire” (Viewers: #1, 7.00 million; A18-49: #1, 0.8/ 6 at 9 p.m.).

Elsewhere, ABC’s two-hour Wednesday sitcom block remained a dud as follows:

Wednesday/ABC
8:00 p.m. “The Goldbergs”
Viewers: 3.15 million (#4), A18-49: 0.6/ 4 (#4)

8:30 p.m. “The Wonder Years”
Viewers: 2.40 million (#4), A18-49: 0.4/ 3 (#4)

9:00 p.m. “The Conners”
Viewers: 3.05 million (#3), A18-49: 0.5/ 3 (#2t)

9:30 p.m. “Home Economics”
Viewers: 1.95 million (#4), A18-49: 0.3/ 2 (#4)

Fox, meanwhile, has another weak freshman series on its hands care of “Alter Ego”, which at 2.35 million viewers (#4) and a 0.4/ 3 in adults 18-49 (#3t) at 9 p.m.) lost about half of the lead-in support from “The Masked Singer” (Viewers: #3, 4.12 million; A18-49: #1t, 0.8/ 6). Aren’t we all just plain tired of all these singing competitions?

The CW capped off the night with the season finale episodes of “Riverdale” (Viewers: 402,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 1 at 8 p.m.) and “Into the Dark” (Viewers: 339,000, A18-49: 0.1/ 0 at 9 p.m.). Not much you can say about these linear ratings!
